Welcome
When children struggle with academics, parents aren’t always sure how to help. I can help you help them succeed.
When your child needs some extra encouragement or they can’t stay organized, when math becomes overwhelming or choosing a book is a chore, there are strategies that can help them overcome. I can listen and advise you when it all feels like a never-ending battle. What you need is someone experienced and reliable on your side to calm the waters and help make learning fun again. Let me be that person for you.
Tutoring: One-on-one sessions for when your child needs extra help with a subject or has gaps in their knowledge. I work with their current curriculum to help students gain a deeper understanding of a difficult concept or to help them get caught up if they fall behind. I tutor students in all subjects from first through middle school. I also help older students with writing skills and math through Algebra 1.
Why Tutoring?
For most students, one-on-one or small group settings are a more effective environment for learning than a crowded and often chaotic classroom. In these smaller settings, students have a chance to get their questions answered, and the teacher can more easily evaluate their learning – no high-stress testing needed.
Homeschool Tutoring?
Every parent has different strengths. You may find teaching certain subjects to be a breeze, but others leave you wondering if things are going well. Or maybe your child just doesn’t seem to get it, even though you’ve explained it a dozen times this week. I can help you (mom or dad) to get your child past an overwhelming topic. Or if you’re totally unsure about Algebra, then maybe a private teacher is what your family needs.
Private Teacher: Small groups or one-on-one sessions where I do the teaching for you. This may be the perfect option when you’re uncomfortable with a subject or just don’t have the time for one more thing. I can use your selected curriculum or find one for you.
Homeschool Consultant: Homeschooling is a big job! From one-time Q&A sessions to having me on retainer for a full school year, I can help you create a successful homeschool experience for your students!
About Me:
My name is Stefanie Scialdone, and I am an educator at heart. From early childhood, my favorite pretend game was to play school. After graduating from Northwest Nazarene College, I taught in public schools in the Treasure Valley for nine years. I worked with the tutoring department during my time at NNC and have tutored on and off throughout my career. I have also helped run a homeschool program, homeschooled my own child, been a classroom paraprofessional, and a substitute teacher. I lovewatching the light come on in a child’s eyes when they “get it”!
My Heart for Homeschool:
I stepped away from the classroom when my son was born, and shortly after that we moved to Colorado. When it came time to choose a school for my son, my husband and I agreed that homeschooling was the best option for our family. We homeschooled from pre-K through graduation.
During the elementary years, we were involved in a homeschool enrichment program at a local charter school that allowed my son to be with other students and do some of the fun things that really can’t be done one-on-one: PE, science fairs, and field trips, to name a few.
Once the middle school years came, I decided that we needed more support. We joined a two-day-a-week program that covered more subjects and allowed me to dig deeper into the subjects I was teaching at home. The teachers and I split the workload, so to speak! After one year, the director convinced me to come on as a teacher, and I spent the next 10 years as a part of the program, even after my son graduated.
Recently, my husband and I made the decision to move to Idaho and away from the program that was an integral part of my life. I didn’t want to go back to public education, too much has changed in the last 25 years. I love the homeschool community and want to continue serving parents and students as they navigate their homeschooling journeys! How can I help you?
